Merdeka and the festive season have come round so everyone is looking forward to the long blissful week ahead with little to no traffic on the roads. Why can't every day be like this? Well we intend to enjoy it while it lasts.
On the cards tonight is a family makan - a cousin whom we have not seen in ages has come into town with his wife so it will be a round of catching up and loud, boisterous laughter at the dinner. It is not often that we get a chance to meet up and of late, I have come to appreciate the value of family and the ties that bind. Blood is thicker than water eventually and when push comes to shove, it will be your family that has your back. Unfortunately hubby doesn't share the same sentiment and is not going tonight. Shy, that's what he is, says my mum. But he much prefers his own company and that of his kids as he is sorely lacking in social niceties skills. For me, the gregarious person that I am, I look forward to times like this and wallow in the gossip that usually buzz around on these occasions. Bless my little brother for taking the initiative to get everyone going and organising it. Best of all, we don't even have to think of bring a dish as my hosting cousin has decided to provide a wonderful dinner for all! Yum - can just imagine the wonderful smells and tastes of whatever gourmet dishes she is going to get.
MUM'S THE WORD - A mum who goes home from a long day of work to another few hours of work before sleep comes. On the odd occasion, I read a book by my favourite author, Nora Roberts/JD Robb. As you can see from my picture, I put my stamp on things, make an impact in the lives of people around me and put my foot down when the need arises.

Lazy Sunday
Lazing around today after a hectic but fruitful Saturday. Hubby and I drove daughter and her stuff, a car load of them, back to Singapore and then headed back home again after unloading her things at the Hall. It was a record for us. Left at 11 am, said bye bye to the son who was left home alone, much to his delight, and had a smooth ride to the Tuas checkpoint. Arrived at immigration there at 3 pm and made our way to NUS where we took down all of daughter's things and transferred them to her room. It was a fairly quick job, all of 20 minutes. So hubby decided to head back home to KL instead of spending the night at a hotel in Johor. So off we went again, and again, it was a smooth ride to the Tuas checkpoint which we reached at 3.55 pm and hit Malaysian soil soon after. A 15 minute toilet break at Pagoh did not slow us down at all as hubby was so delighted by the lack of traffic that he was zipping about at 140 km/h. No cops in sight as it was the fasting month.... it must have been because of this that traffic was so good. Mmmmm, must travel again during this time now that we know.
As it is, we usually head for our favourite seaside town, Port Dickson, come ramadan time as the beaches there are clear of crowds and we can enjoy the sites to ourselves. Even the pools are clear and it is just blissful to have everything to ourselves. Now we know that Singapore is the same, we may just make the trip down come next ramadan.

Passport renewed
Finally braved the horrors of immigration to renew my passport which had expired months ago. I remembered when we got up at the crack of dawn to be one of the first in the queue at the old immigration branch at Terminal 3 Subang - it was quite an experience and obviously not something I would want to repeat. So after hearing from people about the newly opened (not really, but to me it was) branch which had relocated from Terminal 3, I trooped off optimistically on a lovely Monday morning at 11 am to Kelana Jaya with my daughter in tow.
After parking my car in basement 3, we walked to the office and much to my surprise, my documents were checked swiftly by the person manning the counter by the door who gave me the queue number and paper-clipped everything together. After a one minute wait, my number was called and the officer at the counter processed my application in no time at all. I paid my fee at another counter a few minutes later and in about 10 minutes after we walked in the door, I was seated and waiting for my passport to be ready. Now this took a while (about an hour) and what was interesting to note was that the people there were more efficient than the machine as all applications were dealt with swiftly and easily. What held us all back was the fact that the passports took more time to be printed.
All in, we were about 75 minutes at the immigration office - fairly painless, especially since I bumped into an old friend from Taiping. A good outing today which ended with a quick lunch at 1Utama - New York Deli - where daughter had pasta and I had the Latino chicken chop. We were starving, as it was 2 pm by the time we sat down for lunch. Darn LDP traffic!
